brief history:
peyton was born one wintry november evening, and perhaps it would have been a warning to her parents that the thunderstorm outside might be an indication of the daughter they carried so carefully in their arms. she was a difficult baby right from the off, crying all the time and often for no reason, crawling all over the place, almost down the stairs at one point. once she could hold a crayon she was all over the walls, and as soon as she was on her feet it was a damn issue trying to keep her in the house let alone her bedroom and playing with her toys. her parents struggled greatly, yelling at each other, yelling at her, exhausted, underweight and really really struggling to keep it together. peyton was diagnosed eventually as having adhd, but knowing the issue didn't always help. her parents struggled to keep her interest and focus and stop her from focusing her attention elsewhere. they couldn't control her, and it was damn lucky that they didn't have another child to deal with.
when she was five, they tried putting her into clubs with her school, but she wasn't interested in arts and often made trouble with the other kids, she was hard to keep in control due to her parents lack of authority from the beginning and therefore teachers struggled too. eventually they discovered gymnastics, and when peyton didn't completely throw a fit or despise the activity they realised they may have finally found something to help her. the teacher - mrs. swanson - was kind and sweet, and always managed to get peyton to focus and work hard. she had a quiet authority which the young child could relate to and therefore did not act out so much, and she progressed rapidly. as she grew older she became better, however her school work always suffered. the teachers didn't know how to deal with her, and the moment a teacher made a bad impression upon peyton then often she would no longer pay them any attention within their classes.
as she went to secondary school and turned fourteen a few years later it all got worse. whilst she had progressed incredibly at gymnastics, her school work was going down the drain. she continued to act out in classes, refused to work properly, often never focused and disrupted the class so much that she was usually taken out of them. it wasn't entirely her fault, she struggled and she did try to focus and pay attention but her head thought otherwise and she couldn't do it. she thrived in sports but only because it involved high activity, unlike maths which she barely attended anymore anyway. she soon discovered alcohol, falling into the wrong crowd and going out to parties frequently, often not coming home till late or not at all, getting drunk, flirting and eventually sleeping with guys well before her sixteenth birthday. she wasn't a bad girl exactly, she just stopped caring about school. the only thing she ever focused on anymore was her gymnastics.
when she got to sixteen she dropped out before her exams, much to her parents anger. they didn't understand and they had always struggled to support her and keep her going. instead she said she wanted to join the army, and they reluctantly allowed her to, thinking it might help her get her condition under control. she survived it for two years. she loved the training, the physical exercise of it gave her a thrill, the courses gave her a rush and she was always up for it. even the combat was fun, but the idea of war was not so pleasant. she could throw a fellow trainee down in the mud in hand-to-hand combat, but she doubted she could shoot a stranger in the face. she was sent out only once to the front line and though she did the job she hated every second and in the end requested to leave early. she knew it wasn't for her and so she left, returning home with more control over herself. the army had taught her a lot, but now she was back in hickstead she grew restless. upon working hard at the gym one day she discovered yoga, and upon several years of practise she became a yoga instructor, loving that it helped her find peace and control. she returned part time to gymnastics and found she had enough money to move into her own flat and begin her own life.
